Lakes, oceans, rivers and maybe even some rain. Whatever the focus of the photo may be.

The Washington Monument from inside the Lincoln Memorial

wash-monument-dc-IMG_3927.JPG

I really thought that this photo was not going to be a good one, I hadn’t even lined up the camera on the tripod yet (I did straighten this) and I took the to see how the timing came out. I took a few more photos that were more thought out / planned and this one turned out to be one of my favorite photos.

f/3.5 for 2.5 seconds at ISO 320, I was zoomed all the way out to 18mm, I’m assuming this is my 18-200mm and not the 18-55mm, but I’m not certain.

Pelican taking off near Merritt Island

Pelican Merritt Island Florida

I was rollerblading along the bridge/overpass/park connecting Florida to Merritt Island (they’ve kinda got a park/fishing pier along the bottom edge of part of the bridge) and saw this Pelican. I caught him a few times, but I think this was one of the better shots. I’ve got a nice one of him(?) standing still, but it’s boring compared to this one.

That’s at 1/400th of a second, but we can still see the motion at the tips of his wings.

Belle Isle Bridge early in the morning

sunrise-belle-isle-bridge-IMG_6124.jpg
The bridge is actually called the McArthur Bridge. This was an early morning photo shoot at Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan. We were there for sunrise and this photo was taken just before sunrise. This photo is taken from the park at the entrance to the park, you’re looking across the Detroit River to Belle Isle itself. The sun is way to the left and out of the shot.

This was shot at ISO 100, f/14 and set for a 1 second exposure, the long expose is part of why the water looks so smooth (see the difference in this cropped ⅓ second exposure photo I took just seconds before. I shot this in RAW with no editing after. I normally don’t shoot in raw (the images are too huge) but I plan to explore more with some post production but didn’t with this photo.

The Sunset from Belle Isle at Sunset Park

sunset-belle-isle-IMG_1056.JPG
The sunset from tip of Sunset Park on Belle Isle. I posted a similar photo (but much closer) photo last October (maybe from the same day) you can see the Ambassador Bridge connecting Detroit to Canada. I was just there in the evening a few weeks ago and the sun goes no where near the Renaissance Center when it sets.

Baskets on an Island in Egypt

20120609-185504.jpg
This is on a tiny island near Aswan, on The Nile at the south end of Egypt. I think we did a small tour on a boat and then had lunch on the island. The water is the Nile and that’s facing west, so that makes all the sand in the background the Sahara Desert.

Under the Ambassador Bridge

20120512-185236.jpg
This was taken on the Diamond Jack boat tour of the Detroit River. I think this was the tour from Wyandotte, it goes just a little north of the Ambassador Bridge and then turns back around.

Diamond Jack has great boat trips on the Detroit River. I think they run from Memorial Day to Labor Day on Thursdays to Sunday. The ones from downtown Detroit start at Rivard Plaza right by the carousel and the ones from Wyandotte start at the Bishop park. I think they do two a day at each location; the Detroit ones are the same, the Wyandotte has a north tour and a south tour.

A house or B&B in Canada

canada-house-colored-chairs-IMG_0048.JPGI love the house and all the colored wooden chairs. With the green background, I like how it all “fits” together.

This is own the Canadian side of the Detroit river, we’re south of Windsor so I’m not certain exactly where. Maybe down by Amherstberg…

I forgot to mention, this was on one of the Diamond Jack river tours (they have a dock in Detroit and another in Wyandotte) this was one of the two different tours from Wyandotte; if you’ve never done any of these tours, your missing out!

A lonely doll washed up on shore

lonely-doll-IMG_3025.JPG
Yes, I know it’s a little creepy, but there is something I like about it. Actually, I’ve got four or five of these that I took with a few different cameras and there is something I really like about them (I took more, but there is 4 or 5 I really like). So, you might be seeing more of this doll in the future…

This is way up the beach from Montezuma, I think it’s where they do the surfing, I think it was when I stopped for lunch on the way to El Chorro Falls….

I don’t know this guy

guy-i-dont-know-IMG_2299.JPGBut I really like the way this photo came out. The colors and the way the sun washes out part of the right hand side of the photo.

This is the start of the river from the big falls in Montezuma, Costa Rica.

Seagull in motion

I thought this one was going to get away from me I caught him just as he took off. Downtown Detroit at the Riverwalk.
